Google Voice - Currently only available in the US and is in beta. It will bring VOIP to a new level. You would get your own Google phone number, free calls, SMS, cheap long distance rates and other free features that your telephone provider would normally charge.
Google Streets - Not available in Canada (yet). However, Google's Street mapping cars were spotted in Canada April 2009.... so it should arrive very soon. Until then, we'll have to hold off from walking INTO maps like Joey from Friends when they visited London.
Google Latitude - Not available on the iPhone (yet). Coming soon.

Honda Indy Toronto
Other than the closure of Lake Shore which caused a traffic nightmare in preparation for Toronto Honda Indy, I found the Budweiser truck parked at Yonge-Dundas Square.
A mobile bar with a rooftop patio and a football throwing game/machine. Awesome!

my new iPhone
After a long and careful thought, I finally got the new Apple iPhone 3GS.
It's white with 16 GB of illegal content.
So why did I cave-in and buy it?
I spend a lot of time commuting to/from work. In fact each day, I spend an average of 2.5 hours (round trip) on the GO Train. Most of my time is spent napping. For the times that I'm not napping, my time is wasted. I could be reading or researching on stock information or catching up on my emails.
A data plan was going to happen at some point. The bigger decision was the choice of Blackberry Bold vs iPhone 3GS.
So why iPhone 3GS and not BB Bold?
- iPhone has the better web browser. If I'm paying for an expensive data plan, I better get web content that works.
- iPhone has the faster web browser. The 'S' in 3GS stands for (processing) SPEED. Watch the YouTube comparison video. Notice the author is by BlackberryCool.
- iPhone 3GS has push-email.
- iPhone has 50 000 applications. There's a app for just about anything and most are free.
- iPhone is unlockabe. You can jailbreak the phone and get all your apps for free.
- iPhone 3GS has voice command, GPS, compass, leveler, copy-paste.... and of course an MP3 player
- Camera is 3 MP
- It's also a cell phone.
Oh... but you don't have Blackberry Messenger?
I know big corporations use it but seriously, how often would YOU use it? Who would you message? Your boss? If I need to send out a short message, I'll just SMS. I purchased a data plan, not a text messaging plan.
Things I don't like about the iPhone 3GS.
- The standard headphone/mic included with the phone is a piece of sheet. My Sony Ericsson's in-ear buds were a lot better.
- The battery is built-in to the device. Any replacements have to go to the Apple store.
- The camera has no flash/light.
- No radio!
The battle for smart phones will continue.
The Blackberry Tour 9630 has gone to Bell and Telus. This is the 3G model of the existing Blackberry Curve 8900.
Would I use a Blackberry?
Only for business.

Google Chrome OS
No pressure Microsoft (with a 97% market share dominance in the operating system market)...
Google is coming out with an operating system by 2010. (Google Chrome OS).
It should be be free because it uses Linux as the base engine.
Lets hope Windows 7 lives up to the expectations. It should be interesting.

Speeding Ticket
So.... I got a speeding ticket today. My first ever.
I was caught on Enterprise Blvd going 60 km/h in a 50 km/h posted zone.
No demerit points. $40 fine.
The officer was a young guy, not much older than me. He discouraged me from going to trail by saying that the ticket was a reduced favor. If this goes to trial, he said he would state that I was going at 76.
Online poll from ticketcombat.com suggest that this would not impact my insurance premium.
What should I do? Pay the fine or fight it?

Rogers Blows
Rogers Wireless said Tuesday it would begin charging 15 cents for each incoming text message for customers without message plans, beginning on July 7.
The move comes about nine months after rival carriers Bell and Telus made similar changes in their policies.
Consumers won't be charged for spam text messages and users of the discount brand Fido won't be affected, she said
The announcement of the change to text messaging fees came the same day Rogers announced that both Rogers Wireless and Fido phones will be able to send and receive updates from online messaging service Twitter by SMS text message.

My 2009 Summer Movie List
The Watchmen (March 6)
Yet to see. I'll wait for the DVD rip. =)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (May 1)
Rotten Tomatoes gave it a bad score. I had high expectations for this. Guess I'll have to wait for the DVD rip.
Star Trek (May 8)
YES!!!
Angels and Demons (May 15)
The first one was good so I'll give the 2nd film a chance.
Terminator Salvation (May 22)
This is a must see for me. Cyberdyne Systems! I heard there could be a small clip of the governator.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (June 26)
The first one sucked ass but I'll guess I'll watch it because of the branding and franchise.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (July 1)
It must be good since it's scheduled to release on the HUGE weekend. Only very good movies get the Canada Day and Independence day weekend release slot.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (July 17)
NO. I haven't seen any Harry Potter films.. and don't plan to start.
G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra (August 7)
Yo Joe!

The Power of Branding
So I went to watch Disney's Earth over the weekend at the theaters It was a pretty moving experience....until I went to the Sony Store the day after and saw the EXACT same footage on Blu Ray that I saw the night before!!!
Disney Nature Films made an arrangement with the film producer BBC Planet Earth to use its footage and distributed it by the masses with the Disney name brand. ... and to collect big bucks.
The Disney's version was narrated by Darth Vader (James Earl Jones) with exactly the same words from the BBC documentary.
Here's a clip from BBC's Planet Earth:

Canada placed on copyright blacklist
No news here. First Markham Place, Pacific Mall.
You can never win with free.
Globe and Mail April 30, 2009
The Obama administration added Canada Thursday to a notorious blacklist of countries where Internet piracy flourishes, reflecting a new, tougher line in Washington over the Harper government's chronic failure to deliver on promises of new copyright laws.
“Canada has never been put on the priority watch list before,” said Stanford McCoy, assistant U.S. trade representative for intellectual property and innovation as he released Washington's annual report or offenders.
Canada now joins a group of countries designated as being especially lax in protecting intellectual property, including Algeria, China, Russia, Pakistan, Indonesia and Venezuela. No other advanced Western democracy is on the list and Canada is regarded as a lawless hub for bootleg movies, ripped-off software and pirated chips that bypass copyright protections.

I hate dumb managers
Especially dumb managers who e-mail you with instructions to email others WHEN THEY CAN DO IT THEMSELVES!
“Hi Eddie, I see that you and I are copied on Wendy’s email. Can you send a reply to her and tell her to change the status to green? Thanks.”
“Okay boss.”

They're triplets!
It's not an illusion. I saw this on a section cover of The Globe and Mail today and was awed at the fact that they're triplets, Asian and most importantly...will appear in the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine (May 1, 2009). hawt!
